OMhAS - What are we all about and why are we different?

Updated: Feb 15, 2024

Right now, in almost every industry sector across the globe, there is a lot of talk about mental health. We have all seen global businesses pledge their commitment to de-stigmatising mental health and to prioritising the mental health of their workforce. There are a lot of wonderful initiatives under way in many organisations aimed at supporting workplace mental health and we wish every organisation that has made a commitment to mental health success with their ventures, but if you are in leadership, management or HR in an organisation and have responsibility for workplace mental health and you are unsure whether you have all the right things in place or are unsure of whether you are tackling the right things in the right order, OMhAS is for you.

Have you read headlines and articles telling you to focus on mental health and do you worry you are not doing enough? Have you seen guidance telling you to focus on certain initiatives like supporting Gen Z, tackling burnout or supporting remote workers? These are all very real concerns for many workplaces and at OMhAS we believe that taking any steps to support workplace mental health is positive, but we recommend that you evaluate what your organisation really needs before deciding whether to deploy valuable resources. Burnout, management workload, remote working etc may not be the key concerns for your people. Assessing what is really affecting mental health within your people population and prioritising these issues before others, will allow you to focus your time and other resources on the things which matter most.

OMhAS can help you to identify your organisation’s mental health priorities. We also provide guidance and resources and comprehensive training on workplace mental health. Our directors can support you on every step of the way from starting out, evaluating what you need and planning for the future.

Our mission is to share our extensive experience in people management, lived experience in supporting people with mental health conditions and specialist training in workplace inclusion and mental health, to help your organisation build great workplace mental health culture. Almost 3 years of research and development underpins our products and services. We have collaborated extensively with workplace wellbeing experts and mental health professionals. (Our training programme has been reviewed and approved as “comprehensive” by mental health professionals.)

Our products contain clear guidance and are easy to follow. We promise you that we have completely demystified workplace mental health! In devising our products and services, we have taken on board common concerns which clients have shared with us:

“We have downloaded a workplace mental health toolkit, but we have no idea what to actually put in it or what to prioritise”.

“Our managers don’t feel confident talking about mental health, so they avoid the conversation”.

“We suspect that we may have a significant amount of mental health related absence which is being disguised as minor ailments”.

“I’ve been reading up on workplace mental health and there is a lot of jargon and I am confused.”

“People don’t know what their roles are in relation to mental health”.

“Our organisation publishes a commitment to mental health in almost every communication it issues, but when I was off sick with depression for a month, no one contacted me and no one has mentioned it since I have returned”.
